Tell Me Without Telling Me
Listen to this Insight
Something is alluring and scary about the unknown. It has us transfixed, obsessed, constantly pulling at us no matter how hard we try to ignore it or act like it's not there. It seems to suck in all our focus like a proverbial black hole. Communication is an important part of social life; without it, we wouldn't be able to understand each other or get what we need. Speak clearly and briefly to lower your stress - but there are times when being ambiguous works just as well. In this case, what you leave unsaid can be just as significant (if not more) than what you say. This is a secret some of the greatest content creators; writers, musicians, filmmakers, and even socialites have perfected. People love mystery, crime, and horror for the suspense it provides, not having the details handed to them. Before you reveal the answer, they can try to figure out the criminal based on the evidence and clues provided. You see this when people make suggestive statements and actions; we see this in real life, every day; when people flirt when people give veiled threats. This is one of the most influential and lasting means of communication. Why? Because it engages the mind, you do not spoon-feed the person, hence they have to pay attention to decode your message, full focus of the brain with a healthy mix of imagination. They run multiple scenarios, and as the unknown scares us, it secretly excites us. This is why a surprise party or present brings out the excitement of all... well except the person is an unrepentant recluse anti-social then my apologies in advance, anything you see take (No talk say Seyi say o, OYO). As creators you must learn this skill as well no matter what type of content or field you are in, this brings a healthy change of pace in your storytelling and engages the listeners fully as they try to keep track of the different pieces of the puzzle they can later assemble and try to figure out before your big reveal. You can also use it to mislead them, which when they discover what you did in the end amuses them at how creatively you misdirected them. The secret though is to as much as possible, keep the story simple because an over-complicated plot and structure may lose a lot of people.
