The Ghost in my Playlist

The difference between us is quiet,

but it cuts deep.

When you play sad songs,

you think of a boy,

a love story that went wrong,

a heart that cracked but still beats.

When I play sad songs,I see a ghost.

The one death stole from me

with hands so cold,

I still feel the chill in my bones.

You hear lyrics and remember someone’s voice.

I hear them and remember silence.

You think of love that left.

I think of life that refused to stay.

I think of every failure

that whispered you shouldn’t still be here,

and how perfect the world might have been

if my final attempt had worked.

We are not the same.

The storm you are stepping into,

I have lived inside it.

Been drowned and dragged out,

only to be thrown back in.

Life did not spare me its lessons.

It carved them into my skin,

one scar for every nameable pain.

And now I carry them all,

like ghosts that refuse to let go,

like songs that never stop playing.
