The Inevitable Debt. Prt 2

A Reflection on Death

We walk this earth on borrowed time,

A fragile thread through endless rhyme,

No coin can buy, no plea reset,

The final toll—the debt of death.

It waits for kings and paupers too,

The rich, the poor—no chosen few,

With silent step and patient hand,

It claims us all, by fate’s command.

In whispered winds and fading light,

It lingers close, just out of sight,

A shadow cast on every breath,

The quiet judge that is called Death.

We chase the hours, the fleeting days,

In myriad paths, in countless ways,

Yet none can run, nor hide, nor stall,

For death’s cold hand will claim us all.

We build our walls of wealth and pride,

Yet death sees through, there’s no divide,

It cares not for the crown or throne,

The debt is ours, paid all alone.

Some fear its face, some seek to flee,

Pretending time is endless sea,

But in that denial, sorrow grows,

For death’s truth only wisdom knows.

It teaches us what truly lasts—

Not fleeting gold, or fame amassed,

But love that lives in hearts we touch,

The bonds we forge, the lives we clutch.

The laughter shared, the tears we dry,

The gentle words, the heartfelt sigh,

These are the treasures, deep and rare,

That death can never fully snare.

Yet grief remains, a heavy toll,

When death takes back the precious whole,

A void, a silence, sharp and deep,

A wound that time can scarcely keep.

But even in that pain profound,

A greater truth is often found—

That life’s brief flame must brightly burn,

That every day must teach and turn.

The inevitable debt we owe,

Is not just death’s cold, final blow,

But the call to live aware, awake,

To cherish more than we could take.

To mend what’s broken, forgive the past,

To build a legacy that lasts,

Not in monuments of stone,

But in the kindness we have shown.

So do not fear this silent guest,

Nor bury life within your chest,

For death is but the closing door

To endless peace forevermore.

Until that hour comes to be,

Live boldly, love relentlessly,

For in the debt that death will claim,

Is life’s true purpose, and its flame.
