THE LAST VOICE IN ROOM 17

CHAPTER ONE: The message that wasn't meant.

By the time the school bell rang, Laurina was already halfway down the corridor, her backpack bouncing against her shoulder. She hated staying late—especially on Fridays when the building grew too quiet, too empty. But today, her literature teacher had insisted she finish organizing the old storage room behind the library.

Room 17.

Everyone joked about it. Said it was haunted. Laurina didn’t believe in ghosts… but she also didn’t like the way the air felt near that door—thick, like the room was holding its breath.

She pushed the door open.

Dust floated lazily in the late afternoon light. Stacks of forgotten textbooks leaned against the walls like tired soldiers. Somewhere deep in the room, something creaked.

“Just boxes,” she muttered, forcing confidence into her voice.

She had barely started sorting when her phone buzzed.

Unknown Number.

DON’T TURN AROUND.

Laurina froze.

A cold ripple slid down her spine.

She laughed nervously. “Okay… not funny.”

Probably one of her friends playing a prank. Still, her fingers trembled as she typed back.

Who is this?

The reply came instantly.

You weren’t supposed to find Room 17.

Her heartbeat began to pound.

Slowly—very slowly—Laurina turned around.

Nothing.

Just the door. Slightly open.

She exhaled shakily. “Get a grip.”

But then—

CREEEEAK.

The door moved.

Not wide.

Just enough to make her stomach drop.

TO BE CONTINUED........
