The Silence of an Extrovert

I am the noise you once trusted,

The thunder that danced in a crowded room,

The spark in conversations lit like wildfires,

The heartbeat of laughter in human form.

But now, hear nothing.

A hush, thick as blood,

Wraps around the space I do not fill.

Do not call it peace.

This silence is not golden.

It is charcoal and rust,

A furnace of feral thoughts

Burning behind still lips.

You think I’ve found calm,

Oh no, I’ve found calculation.

Each quiet second is a blade being sharpened

In the blacksmith shop of my mind.

I’m not healed. I’m harnessed.

I’m not broken. I’m bound.

And what you don’t hear

Is the sound of danger preparing its entrance.

My tongue is a lion caged by discipline.

My smile—a crumbling dam.

One tremble of restraint,

And the flood will name new ruins.

You, who once knew me in sunlight,

Wouldn’t dare recognize me in this eclipse.

I am metamorphosis without a cocoon.

A storm dressed in meditation robes.

So when I grow quiet,

Don’t rejoice in my restraint,

Pray for it.

Pray that the silence remains intact,

That the demons I dine with

Continue whispering instead of howling.

Because I am an extrovert gone still.

And that is no virtue.

That is a red flag

In a hurricane of shadows.

That is your only warning.

Let silence be your signal,

Not that I am at peace,

But that I’ve made a pact with the voices

And they are drawing blueprints.

For what comes next.

#CalamusDei
