Have you ever felt like your life was wasting away, or just constantly struggle to meet up deadlines? Everyone is familiar with the idea of time, but like most words, few do not have a very clear understanding of the concept.
I knew a very intelligent person who once helped me simplify the concept. He simply stated; "time is the distance between two events. If the events were something helpful and important, then it is good or useful, if the events do not in any way better or develop you or those around you, then they can be seen as wasted. He went on to say, "time is constantly happening, future, present, and past all happening in one."
I think this idea is something of a hyper object. A hyper object can be defined as an object or event whose dimensions in space and time are massive in relation to human life. In summary, it seems too big or overwhelming to wrap our minds around. This makes most people act like a deer in front of the headlights of a car, stunned and frozen in place.
I feel this topic is very essential and should be taught more to people because a lot of people do not know how to utilize their time. They think they do, but have you wondered how Bill Gates's net worth is around $103.1 billion with the same amount of time in a day as everyone else? While some people will never be able to see even a fraction of that. Yes, I know there are many factors; background, developed country, IQ, etc. But other people from less fortunate backgrounds have also risen to the highest heights, they knew that time can be a valuable ally as well as a treacherous partner.
I read a book by Grant Cardone titled 10X and highly recommend it. The summary of the book is, we are constantly doing one of these at every point in time; putting in a large amount of effort, putting in an average amount of effort, doing little or doing nothing, and the best way to get the highest result is to pour in the highest amount of effort you can.
The reason why successful people are that is that they are more consistent and most important; they show up and do the work, as quickly as they can, because here's the kicker; the sooner you finish a job, the more time you have on your hands to do other things, hence you get ahead of every other person.
Imagine getting to work, by let's say 7 with a list of tasks you have to get accomplished for the day. You get there, arrange your stuff and just immediately dive into getting them done. Meanwhile, others slowly come in by 8, or 9. They get in and rather than start working, they socialize, catch up and then sit to get to work.
Now I'm not saying socializing is wrong, believe me, I've learned the wisdom of what just being in a conversation with the right circle of people at the right time can do for you, believe it or not, people make money over lunch, or a casual hangout, but that is by being in the midst of high-value people, and those high-value people don't enjoy time-wasting or being around people that waste their time. Now some might waste your time because they see their time as more valuable if we're being honest, but if they see you as valuable, odds are that changes.
So, like the earlier definition, once you see your time as important or valuable, you realize you cut down on some unimportant interactions or activities and prioritize things that will move you forward in life. Also, you will learn that when you get the thought to do something productive, it's best to just do it then and there.
A lot of people are living on autopilot, allowing others and time to dictate their actions, when we are the masters of our life and should steer it in the direction we need to. Because in all honesty, time is constantly happening; every second, every breath, and every action we take, we are already building habits that show the kind of life we truly want for ourselves, no matter what we say. Our actions are the real receipt for the life we truly want and pay for.
