As at the time of writing this, the whole country anxiously waits for the results of the presidential election. There is always a moment in a country's history, that shapes its future. And without a doubt, this is one of them.
While we wait, and pray, and voice out against any attempts to rig the election. We should acknowledge how important and crucial this moment is for Nigeria going forward. I have to admit, I had doubts concerning this election. Doubts on the resolve of the people to take back their nation. But after the voting process, these doubts cleared.
The people took to the streets in a massive show of solidarity, responsibility and patriotism, to make their voices heard. What that shows is that, contrary to what we've been made to believe, the true power lies in the hands of the citizens and not any political party. Regardless of whatever party in power, they will always be reminded of this.
Now here comes the uncomfortable part. Victory sometimes doesn't always come in ways we expect. While we hope that the people's choice emerges as the winner, let's keep that in mind. While some victories are instant and immediate, others are gradual and slow.
Regardless of the outcome of this election, we have a victory to build upon. If we get our desire at this moment, that would be amazing. But if we do not, let's keep fighting. An impact has been made, and for no reason should that impact be allowed to fade. I say all these because of some statements I have come across. And also because of the doom some people have predicted if the right man doesn't win.
If that happens, it would be a great disservice to ourselves, to abandon hope and give up on all the work we have put in. The road to victory sometimes is riddled with setbacks, but perseverance and resolve gets us through. I don't think we ever expected an easy fight, considering what we are up against. Corruption and ineptitude have been allowed to fester, and we should expect them to fight back. The beautiful thing is that they will fight back, and they will lose.
This is a fight we will win. Maybe now.. maybe later. But we will win.
Victory is certain
