<p><span style='background-color: transparent; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;'>Mama always said, "A good girl doesn’t speak when men are talking."</span><br/></p><p><span style='background-color: transparent; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;'><br/></span></p><p><span style='background-color: transparent; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;'>So Ada grew up whispering.</span><br/></p><p>In class, she whispered answers.</p><p>In church, she whispered songs.</p><p>Even her dreams were quiet.</p><p><br/></p><p>But one day, Ada wore red lipstick to youth fellowship.</p><p><br/></p><p>The girls giggled. The boys stared.</p><p>Her best friend said, “You want them to call you cheap?”</p><p><br/></p><p>That night, Ada asked Mama, “Why is red sinful on me, but fine on men’s cars?”</p><p><br/></p><p>Mama blinked. She touched Ada’s cheek.</p><p>“Because that’s how it’s always been. I used to like red, but it drew too much attention, and attention is dangerous.</p><p><br/></p><p>Ada smiled, gently but firmly.</p><p>“Maybe it’s time it stops.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She didn’t wear red to provoke.</p><p>She wore it to be seen.</p><p>For self appreciation.</p><p>She smiled not for Mama's mirror, but for her own reflection at least.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not for men.</p><p>Not for approval.</p><p>But for the girl in the mirror who deserved to be free. </p>
