Whispers can burn

*EPISODE 16

“Whispers Can Burn”*

—

The day started normally.

Morning assembly. National anthem. Aisha standing two lines behind Deniem, pretending not to notice how the back of his neck twitched the same way it always did when he was nervous.

They hadn’t spoken all weekend.

The silence wasn’t because of anger — it was fear.

The kind that creeps in when your heart starts catching feelings deeper than you planned.

But by break time, the storm hit.

It started as a whisper in the girls’ toilet:

> “I heard Aisha and Deniem were holding hands behind the library.”

Then by Chemistry period, it was full-blown gossip:

> “They kissed after school last week. Shade said she saw them.”

Aisha walked into class to find eyes on her — not friendly ones.

Deniem’s seat was empty.

Her heart dropped.

When she finally found him near the water tank behind the lab, his jaw was tight.

“They’ve started,” he said without turning.

“I know,” she replied, voice shaking.

“I didn’t think it would happen this fast.”

A beat of silence.

Then Deniem looked at her. “If this goes on, you’ll suffer more than me. You’re the girl. They’ll judge you harder.”

“And what? I should run?” Aisha snapped. “I’m not ashamed of liking you, Deniem.”

His brows softened. “I’m not asking you to run… I’m asking you to survive.”

That night, Aisha’s phone lit up:

*Deniem:* *No matter what they say… if you’re still in this, I’m not going anywhere.*

*Aisha:* *Then we fight in silence. But we don’t stop.*

Because sometimes, the world doesn’t need to understand the love between two people. It just needs to know — it exists.

*To be continued…*
