Years don’t always equal forever and that’s okay.

I used to think that the longer the friendship, the stronger it should be. Like if we had 5, 7, even 10 years in the bag, then we were unshakable. But life has a way of showing you that time doesn’t always guarantee alignment.

The truth is… friendships don’t always end with a fight or betrayal. Sometimes, they just fade. The calls get less frequent. The energy starts to feel forced. And the silence becomes louder than the conversations ever were. At first, I used to blame myself. I’d overthink: “Did I change too much?” “Was I not enough?” But then I realized… maybe we both just evolved in different directions.

It doesn’t mean the friendship wasn’t real. It doesn’t erase the late-night gist, the laughs, the secrets, or the times we held each other down. Those moments still matter. They just don’t have to last forever to be valid.

I’m learning now that some people come into your life to teach you something, to love you through a season, to help you grow. And once their role is done, it’s okay to let go gently, and without bitterness.

Because real maturity is accepting that not everyone you start with is meant to finish the journey with you. And that’s not a loss… it’s just life.
