I'm all about common sense and I believe it is a combination of:

1. Logical reasoning

2. Emotional reasoning

3. Spiritual reasoning

Remove any of the above 3, or have too much of any 1 more than the others, and you're left with something that thinks it's human, but actually is less. This, is what I call The Problem of Sentience. As civilisation grows, it moves through some stages:

1. Discovery - discovery and definition of the world around them using mostly mysticism.

2. Enlightenment - definition of the world around them with clarity and precision, such that, other undiscovered areas still find definition within scope; beginning of the struggle between rationality and mysticism.

3. Equilibrium - the stage of balance between what's know and what isn't.

4. Depravity - the loss of a moral compass.
