I Started Learning Digital Skills Because I Was Tired of Waiting for Opportunities

I got tired of waiting.

Waiting for someone to notice me.

Waiting for the right opportunity.

Waiting for a job.

Waiting for things to somehow get better.

And the hardest part was realizing that nobody was coming to save me.

That wasn't an easy thing to accept.

Like many young people, I had dreams. I wanted to do something meaningful with my life, become financially independent, and build a future I could be proud of. But wanting something and knowing how to get there are two completely different things.

For a while, I thought the answer was simply finding an opportunity.

Then I started paying attention to what was happening around me.

People were making money online. Some were working remotely. Others were designing, writing, programming, editing videos, managing social media, and building businesses with nothing more than a laptop or phone and a skill they had developed.

I started asking myself a simple question:

“What am I actually bringing to the table?”

That question changed something in me.

Instead of constantly asking where I could find an opportunity, I started thinking about what I could learn that would make me useful.

That's how I started taking digital skills seriously.

Graphic design became one of the areas I focused on.

At the beginning, I wasn't some naturally gifted designer. I struggled with things that experienced designers probably wouldn't even think twice about. Sometimes I'd spend hours working on something and still look at it afterward and think, “This doesn't look right.”

There were times I compared my work to professionals online and wondered how I would ever get to that level.

But I kept practicing.

I learned how colors work together. I paid attention to typography, spacing, composition, hierarchy, and all those little details that can turn an ordinary design into something that actually communicates.

And slowly, I started noticing improvement.

My designs weren't perfect, but they were better than they were yesterday.

That taught me something I didn't expect.

You don't always need an opportunity to start. Sometimes you need to start so that you're ready when the opportunity comes.

Learning digital skills hasn't suddenly made everything easy for me.

I'm still learning. I'm still figuring things out. I'm still trying to improve my skills and find my place.

But I'm no longer completely dependent on someone else deciding whether I'm worthy of an opportunity.

I can build.

I can learn.

I can create.

I can offer something.

And that feeling is different.

I think that's one of the biggest reasons young people should consider learning digital skills today.

Not because everyone needs to become a freelancer or start making money online tomorrow.

But because the world is changing, and having a skill gives you more possibilities.

A certificate can show that you studied something.

But a practical skill can show what you can actually do.

And sometimes, the difference between waiting for an opportunity and creating one is simply deciding to learn something new.

I'm still on that journey.

I don't know exactly where it will take me.

But I've stopped waiting for the perfect opportunity to arrive at my doorstep.

I'm trying to become the kind of person who is ready to create one.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
