STILL WAITING ...........
<p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>I don't know if my fainting brain will still remember everything correctly.</p><p><br/></p><p>But I think it was on a Saturday evening.</p><p><br/></p><p>Mum had asked Dad for a few thousand naira to buy an inhaler for me .Β  I was Six years old and had asthma.</p><p>She had no job. She only relied on Daddy.</p><p><br/></p><p>β€œYou're a stingy little man,” I muttered.</p><p><br/></p><p>His eyes became red with anger.</p><p><br/></p><p>I can't remember if he wanted to come and spank me or what exactly happened next.</p><p><br/></p><p>I only remember Mum covering me.</p><p><br/></p><p>The belt was hitting her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her bumps were touching me.</p><p><br/></p><p>I was always curious about what was inside her tummy.</p><p><br/></p><p>I didn't understand why she was suddenly in front of me, shielding me from Daddy.</p><p><br/></p><p>I only remember the sound.</p><p><br/></p><p>The belt.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her cries.</p><p><br/></p><p>And then, somehow, Dad left.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then I saw blood.</p><p><br/></p><p>I don't know what happened after that.</p><p><br/></p><p>Some parts of that day are just... missing.</p><p><br/></p><p>I went to stay at Auntie's place for a while.</p><p><br/></p><p>I didn't see Mum.</p><p><br/></p><p>I kept waiting.</p><p><br/></p><p>I kept waiting for Daddy too.</p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1000467917.png"/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>I was pretty young, but I remember hearing that Mummy had passed away that day while giving birth.</p><p><br/></p><p>I didn't understand.</p><p><br/></p><p>How could Mummy die giving birth when I had just seen her?</p><p><br/></p><p>I didn't understand what any of it meant.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then Daddy died too.</p><p><br/></p><p>They said he was killed with his mistress.</p><p><br/></p><p>I still don't really understand that either.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe that's why a part of me is still waiting.</p><p><br/></p><p>Waiting for Daddy to tell me why he hated Mum and me.</p><p><br/></p><p>Waiting for Mummy to come back and explain everything.</p><p><br/></p><p>Waiting for her to sit beside me like she used to.</p><p><br/></p><p>Waiting for her to tell me stories once again.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe if she comes back, I'll finally understand what happened that Saturday.</p><p><br/></p><p>I'm still waiting, Mummy.</p><p><br/></p><p>Hopefully, one day, you'll come.</p>
