The fine line (Episode 5)

Part 5

The tension in the office was wild. You could literally feel it.

Cynthia had stopped talking to me completely. No more morning smiles, no random gist, no “how was your night.”

Nothing.

Tunde and Adam worked upstairs in the HR department, so I didn’t always see them. But anytime they came down, the energy shifted. Tunde would act like everything was normal — quiet, serious, focused. But later at night, he’d be in my DMs again.

He’d text stuff like,

“You looked fine today sha.”

or

“You don’t even know how curvy you are, do you?”

And I’d tell myself not to reply. But this man’s too smooth. I always did.

Adam, though? He stayed consistent.

Still the same sweet man — bringing me coffee, paying for my lunch sometimes, smiling like I was his peace.

Then one Friday afternoon, something crazy happened.

Right before lunch, I noticed some movement upstairs.

Next thing, Adam was walking down with a cake in his hand. The whole office froze.

The cake had tiny pink flowers and “Be my girlfriend?” written across it.

Everyone’s eyes turned to me.

Even Tunde, standing right behind Adam, looked confused.

Adam smiled, nervous but bold.

“Zara, I really like you. You make work feel like home. Will you be my girl?”

I was shocked. My heart was racing.

But I smiled and said yes.

The office went wild — clapping, cheering, taking pictures.

Except Cynthia.

She didn’t even turn her head. Just kept typing like nothing was happening.

Later that day, Adam asked, “Did I do something wrong? She didn’t even smile.”

I told him, “We had a little misunderstanding. Don’t bother about it.”

He nodded, but deep down, I knew things had officially changed.

Cynthia wasn’t just angry anymore. She was hurt — and that’s a dangerous kind of quiet.

⸻

Cynthia’s POV

Am I cursed not to have love?

I joined this office first. I was supposed to find something meaningful here, but Zara ruined everything.

She took Tunde from me.

And now Adam too? How is that fair?

When I asked Tunde about Zara’s claims, his reply still haunts me.

“Are we dating?”

Like, what does that even mean?

Yes, he told me from the start that he wasn’t looking for love, that we could just be friends with benefits, but still…

He’d hold my hand, slide his hand under my skirt, send me money after sex.

So what was that supposed to be?

Was I just his toy?

And did Zara make him do that?

I knew she liked him. I saw it.

That fake shy laugh anytime he spoke. The way she’d twist her hair around her finger when he passed.

So I moved fast. I had to.

Even if he didn’t want commitment, at least I’d have him.

I couldn’t let Zara take that peace from me.

But now he barely replies my texts. He’s acting distant.

And she’s walking around with Adam like she’s some angel.

Hips swinging, fake smile, pretending she’s not the villain here.

It’s not like she’s finer than me.

She just wears tight dresses and thinks confidence is a personality.

God, what did I do wrong?

I need Tunde back.

Even if it means doing something unpleasant.

I don’t care.

He’s mine.
