Perhaps the love is genuine, literally I will support such friend, it doesn't work with me doesn't mean it won't work with the friend... And not all love come to stay.
Anyhow that my view, honestly.......
So basically, I don't see anything bad in dating your friend Ex, reasons— once one doesn't happened that they cheated, which led to their break up, and cos things doesn't work betw them doesn't jeopardized that they're not allow to date anyone they like... So my point depends on what triggered their broke up in the first place. It can be issue of genotype, Rheum or some red flags which such friend cannot permit... But dat doesn't mean can't date your ex, I don't know who bring the rules tho.....
