People Don't Hate Corruption; They Just Hate That It Isn't Their Turn To Eat

Boluwatife . Student @ University of Abuja • Abuja • 1 day ago

I believe not everyone who gets the opportunity to be corrupt will take it. Some people genuinely have integrity, self-control, and principles they won't compromise simply because they have power or opportunity to do so

I'd like to believe that, even if they're few, there are still politicians and public officials who aren't corrupt. Being around that much money and having the ability to take without being questioned, it takes the grace of God to not become corrupt .

....then your argument becomes, I want to fend for my family

It was urgent, blah blah blah

What I'm trying is corruption is a whole lot

Sometimes premeditated sometimes not

And sometimes corruption isn't only in terms of stealing public funds

Omooo I have a whole lot to say to you concerning this but....

You have a good take but it has loopholes kind of

You really don't understand the pressure of being in power.

I once heard a story of a man who became a chairman in his environs.

The next day his whole family and even extended came to camp at his house saying they are now family members of a politician and need one thing or the other.

How much is all his earnings as a chairman but then there's already pressure of him being the breadwinner of his family.

Sometimes you might not want to initially but along the line you fall also...

I also agree with you. I think that’s where self-awareness comes in too. We may all participate in or normalize certain things without realizing it, but I still believe there’s a difference between being influenced by a corrupt system and consciously choosing to exploit it.

The system can make integrity difficult, but I don’t think it makes it impossible.

You’re right, and I agree with you. But I also think corruption has levels.

It’s not always about stealing millions. Sometimes, we indirectly participate in or normalize things without realizing it.

Like they say, a sheep that walks with dogs will eventually eat what they eat. 😂

In a system like ours, staying completely clean can be difficult. But yes, integrity still exists.
