This is honestly painful to read.

The part about children being told they’re lying really got to me.

We tell children to speak up when something is wrong.

“Tell an adult.”

“Don’t keep secrets.”

But what happens when they finally speak and the adults around them don’t believe them?

we want children to speak up, then we also have to create an environment where they know they’ll be listened to and taken seriously.

Exactly 🥺❤️ We can't keep telling children to speak up if, when they finally find the courage to do so, we dismiss them or make them feel like they're imagining things.

I think listening is just as important as telling them to speak. They need to know that when they come to us, they won't immediately be judged, blamed, or ignored. Sometimes believing a child can be the first step toward protecting them. 🤍
