<p>This is a difficult topic, but I appreciate the way you separated compassion from accountability.</p><p>Mental illness can help us understand what happened, but it doesn’t make the lives lost any less tragic. I also agree that mental health treatment and proper monitoring should be taken seriously, especially when there have already been clear warning signs.</p><p>There’s a lot to discuss here without reducing it to simply “prison or no prison.”</p>
