Carry It Anyway
<p>We think light is weightless.</p><p><br/></p><p>But ask anyone who has ever stayed up to watch a sick mother breathe. </p><p><br/></p><p>Ask the boy who carries his father's surname like a debt. </p><p><br/></p><p>Ask the girl who holds her family's hope in a JAMB score. </p><p><br/></p><p>They will tell you - light is heavy.</p><p><br/></p><p>We are all born holding a small lamp. Not bright. Just enough to see the next step. </p><p><br/></p><p>For some, the lamp is love they received early. </p><p><br/></p><p>For some, it is hunger. </p><p><br/></p><p>For some, it is a quiet anger that says "my life must mean more than this."</p><p><br/></p><p>And the tragedy is not that the world tries to blow it out. The world is wind - that is its nature. </p><p><br/></p><p>The tragedy is that we learn to cup our hands so tightly around our own lamp that we never lift it to light another's path.</p><p><br/></p><p>I have seen a conductor in Lagos hold back a danfo for an old woman who was still crossing, even though passengers cursed him. His lamp got bigger.</p><p><br/></p><p>I have seen a teenager share one earpiece with his friend to watch the final season of demon slayer on a cracked phone, in a backyard that smelled of trash. Their lamp got bigger.</p><p><br/></p><p>Beauty is not in having more light. </p><p><br/></p><p>Beauty is in realizing your light was never meant to be hidden under your bucket.</p><p><br/></p><p>The deepest truth I know is this: We do not become beautiful by being flawless. We become beautiful by being willing to be seen while carrying something heavy and glowing.</p><p><br/></p><p>So carry your light. </p><p><br/></p><p>Even if it shakes. </p><p><br/></p><p>Especially if it shakes.</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone in your darkness is using it to find their way home.</p><p><br/></p><p>  Think about that.</p>
