Do our films carry our tradition or are we just making films for vibes?
<p>Errr…. I think the both.<br/></p><p>I had the massive privilege to be attend my former secondary school’s screening, Olohije Oyakhire. And I say, what a brilliant woman and also a film nerd she is! </p><p>But let’s talk. Do our films really reflect our traditions and society? We had discussed this during the screening and there were a lot of answers. </p><p>To me, I think the film media is used for escapism, and many people don’t want to see or watch their reality; they would rather watch things for fun. Don’t get me wrong; that’s beautiful and needed in this sometimes stressful thing called life, but what about film as an education? </p><p><br/></p><p>I remember cowering to pitch my film about autism in film school because I was scared everyone would choose the better comical stories and that’s on me, but I've learned now that my films are going to be a form of escapism but also a way to educate people, challenge people, make people connect with their traditions (even the “weird” ones)</p><p>And that’s it really. Film should always be for entertainment and for education. </p><p>And that’s on period.</p><p>To the amazing Olohije Oyakhire , the whole world is waiting for the amazing African-centred films you would write and produce and we are all rooting for you.
