DON'T JINX IT; Superstition or Strategy?

Have you ever wondered about the warning, "Don't say your next plan out loud"?

My mother would always scold me whenever I let out information she considered unnecessary. She would ask if I wanted my plans ruined.

How?

She would simply give me that look and repeat her warning.

Over time, it became a familiar part of my upbringing. But I began to wonder: what exactly did my mother mean by that?

"Don't let them jinx your plans."

I asked several people and went back to my mother for further enlightenment. Eventually, I began to understand what she was trying to communicate.

"Seal your mouth if you don't want people to jinx your plans."

But I have questions.

There are so many plans that have failed and so many dreams that have been crushed.

Do you think it is because you failed to safeguard your mouth?

Do you believe that giving out too much information can ruin your chances of succeeding?

Do you believe in negative energy?

Have you ever felt that you missed out on an opportunity simply because you told someone about it?

As for me, I think I believe in this to some extent. Or have I come to believe it because I have been told repeatedly?

Perhaps there is more to this than the fear of being jinxed.

Sometimes, we share our plans with people who have no genuine interest in seeing them succeed.

We expose our next moves to unnecessary opinions, unsolicited advice and discouragement.

We allow people's expectations to put pressure on us before we have even begun.

And yet, I don't think every plan should be hidden.

At times, speaking about our dreams connects us to people who can help us achieve them.

Sharing is how opportunities find us.

So, where do we draw the line?

Perhaps the lesson is not to become afraid of speaking, but to become intentional about what we share, who we share it with and when we share it.

Nevertheless, seal your mouth when necessary.

It's not everything you need to spill out. Not every plan needs an audience before you can execute it. Not every dream needs to be announced before it has the chance to become reality.

Some dreams are better off when you let them announce themselves.

Not all success needs noise.

Tread carefully.

Be mindful of the information you give away. Learn the difference between sharing and oversharing.

After all, not everything needs a megaphone
