still stands the ancient anticipation of Ela, the saviour, promised to arrive

The coming of Èlà dominates the atmosphere of elders' council

‎Elders to Akindele( Great grand father):

‎"Èlàa is coming soon" they said

‎So he folded his dreams like prayer mats,

‎Fled from Ògún, Sàngó, Èsú, Òsun, to Wait for Èlà on heaven’s doorstep,

‎Counting clouds instead of years.

‎

‎Elders to Olanrewaju( Grandfather):

‎"Èlà is coming soon,"again they echoed 

‎So he built no house,

‎His only land walk as sacrifice into the air

‎Only sowed offerings into the gallow

‎And called it faith.

‎Elders to Olusola( Father):

‎"Èlà is coming soon", 

‎So he knelt in the house of meditation,

‎Offering his sweat,

‎Planting his children in fear,

‎And teaching them patience that no fruit it bears 

‎

‎Elders to Olarewaju(Me):

‎Èlà is coming soon —

‎But I’ve seen as sun wakes and sleeps too many times

‎To still be waiting for footsteps in the sky.

‎My hunger won’t wait for prophecy,

‎My crave to witness won’t bow to revelation.

‎

‎So I stand and say:

‎Enough!, no one is coming.

‎If salvation be real,

‎Let it start with bread in the mouths of the poor,

‎Light in the eyes of the hopeless,

‎And truth in the tongue of the preacher.

‎

‎Because I’m done inheriting waiting.

‎Done watching faith rot into Ash.

‎If heaven has ears,

‎Let it answer.

‎If not, Then, maybe we are the coming.

‎Maybe we are the return we’ve been promised.
