Emotions

These past few days have been an emotional rollercoaster.

Trying to figure out what is actually going on with yourself, but somehow getting stuck.

Being able to define your emotions is very important. But what happens when you can't?

Lately, I've been so overwhelmed that I've found myself confused, trying to figure out what exactly I'm feeling. And somehow, in the process of trying to understand one emotion, I get lost in another.

Have you ever just sat down and started thinking about the reason you felt low?

You start with one thought.

Why am I feeling this way?

Then you begin to think about what happened, what might have caused it, and before you know it, you're already imagining things that may not even be happening.

Then money issues come up.

You start thinking about your life.

Your future.

Your existence in general.

Omo! That's a lot.

And that's not even all of it.

You abandon that thought and somehow bring up your love life again. 😂

One minute, you're trying to understand why you're feeling sad, and the next minute, you're questioning your relationships, your finances, your future, your decisions, and practically everything about your life.

At some point, you just get stuck.

You don't even know which problem needs a solution anymore because everything has rushed out at once.

And I think that's one of the difficult things about emotions. They don't always come one at a time.

Sometimes, one emotion opens the door for another.

You could start with sadness and end up thinking about loneliness. Loneliness could remind you of a particular person. That person could remind you of something that happened months ago. Then suddenly, you're angry about something completely different.

And now you're sitting there wondering:

“How did I even get here?”

It's exhausting.

Sometimes, someone asks you, “What's wrong?”

And you genuinely don't know what to say.

Not because you don't want to talk.

Not because you're trying to hide anything.

You just don't know how to explain what is happening inside you.

You know you're not okay, but you can't properly explain why you're not okay.

Maybe you're sad.

Maybe you're angry.

Maybe you're disappointed.

Maybe you're lonely.

Maybe you're tired.

Or maybe you're feeling all of them at once.

And sometimes, I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to immediately understand what we're feeling.

We want to give every emotion a name. We want an explanation. We want to be able to say, “This is exactly why I feel this way.”

But what if we can't?

What if sometimes we're simply overwhelmed?

What if sometimes we just need to sit with the feeling for a while before we can understand it?

I think that's okay too.

We don't always have to have the right words.

We don't always have to know exactly what is wrong.

Sometimes, acknowledging that something doesn't feel right is already a start.

Because emotions can be confusing. They can take you from one thought to another, from one memory to another, until you're completely lost in your own mind.

And sometimes, while trying so hard to understand yourself, you get lost in another emotion.

Maybe understanding your emotions isn't always about having all the answers.

Maybe it's about being patient enough to listen to yourself.

To sit with your feelings.

To let yourself feel without judging yourself for feeling.

And maybe, with time, the things that once felt confusing will begin to make sense.

Because sometimes, you don't need to figure yourself out all at once. You just need to give yourself enough room to feel.
