Father and the river

Here I pitch my tent

grieving in my cottage, I hung up my net.

With this Bougainville's black death

spread at my wall's breadth

That jet black poison plant I dare not touch.

Curse! This oppressive boot.

You uniformed beast

In your search for black gold did the unthinkable

Soiled! Mother ocean. Fish that once fed our mouth now washed up on our own shores —poisoned! Black slimy grease soiled them.

There is death in our wells

And every month a mother buried a babe.

Marooned on this poisoned island, we are at stake and fierce uniformed hounds lurk all around us.

And they killed Kemedi

Ahh that noose that strangled! Strangled cordial Kemedi

His blood that dripped —dripped and lit the fire

The fire kissed the mangrove and the Government office.

The office blew in a bright explosion that lights the water from a horizontal distance.

The debris falls, accompanied by the darkened tears of the pregnant gloomy cloud.

It was the Black rain.
