It is one of the most dangerous and hurtful lies there is.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Love is safe</strong>. Love is gentle. Love is respectful. It does not hurt you, it does not scare you, and it certainly does not leave bruises. There is no confusion here: a person who truly loves you will never use their hands to cause you pain. Hitting you is not a mistake; it is a choice to use violence and control.</p><p><br/></p><p>When someone hurts you and then says, "I was upset," or "You made me do it," or "It’s because I care so much," they are trying to trick you. They are trying to shift the blame from their awful choice to your own actions or even to the feeling of "love." This is a pattern of abuse. It doesn't get better on its own; it almost always gets worse and more dangerous.</p><p><br/></p><p>Your safety and your happiness are the most important things.
