Heaven II (for breath and beloved).
<p><br/></p><p>I have been</p><p>where harmony lives.</p><p><br/></p><p>It is not far.</p><p>It is here—</p><p><br/></p><p>in our breath,</p><p>beneath trees</p><p>with wide, outstretched arms,</p><p>in the hush between birdsong</p><p>and the returning wind.</p><p><br/></p><p>I have been</p><p>with you.</p><p><br/></p><p>Before this moment,</p><p>before these names,</p><p>before time learned</p><p>to count itself in years,</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>In lifetimes</p><p>I have never lived,</p><p>a mighty hand</p><p>has written us—</p><p><br/></p><p>not hurriedly,</p><p>not carelessly,</p><p>but with the strange precision</p><p>of something that already knew</p><p>where we would meet.</p><p><br/></p><p>And I ask the wind,</p><p><br/></p><p>what have I done</p><p>to deserve</p><p>a gift</p><p>like you?</p><p><br/></p><p>The wind says nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p>It knows better</p><p>than to interrupt</p><p>what the heart has already answered.</p><p><br/></p><p>I could tell myself</p><p>I earned this.</p><p><br/></p><p>I could call it merit,</p><p>good fortune,</p><p>good timing.</p><p><br/></p><p>I could sit</p><p>at a self-idolizing banquet</p><p>and feast on the idea</p><p>that I made this happen.</p><p><br/></p><p>But some gifts</p><p>arrive too perfectly</p><p>to be credited</p><p>to the giver.</p><p><br/></p><p>Some things</p><p>are older than our hands.</p><p>Older than our names.</p><p>Older than the little stories</p><p>we tell ourselves</p><p>about how we became.</p><p><br/></p><p>There are rhythms</p><p>my heart remembers</p><p>that my body</p><p>has never learned.</p><p><br/></p><p>Rhythms older than time.</p><p>They define.</p><p>They're divine.</p><p>They determine.</p><p><br/></p><p>And I am</p><p>where harmony peaks—</p><p><br/></p><p>in the holiest</p><p>of symphonies,</p><p>where your breath</p><p>finds mine</p><p>and neither</p><p>needs translation.</p><p><br/></p><p>With you.</p><p><br/></p><p>I have known</p><p>the before.</p><p>I know</p><p>the now.</p><p>And the future</p><p>waits ahead of us,</p><p><br/></p><p>quietly carrying</p><p>the lives</p><p>we have not yet lived.</p><p><br/></p><p>There are mornings</p><p>we have not woken into,</p><p>roads our feet</p><p>have not yet chosen,</p><p>rooms that do not know</p><p>our voices yet.</p><p><br/></p><p>There are older versions</p><p>of us somewhere ahead,</p><p><br/></p><p>wearing our faces</p><p>with a little more wisdom</p><p>and wondering</p><p>why we ever worried so much</p><p>about becoming.</p><p><br/></p><p>I will meet you there.</p><p>As I met you here.</p><p>As I met you</p><p>before here.</p><p><br/></p><p>I have been.</p><p>I am.</p><p>I will be.</p><p><br/></p><p>This is where life begins—</p><p>not in the first breath,</p><p>but in the breath</p><p>that answers another.</p><p>In the melody</p><p>of our breathing.</p><p><br/></p><p>In the sculpture</p><p>of our silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>My back</p><p>to yours.</p><p><br/></p><p>Still.</p><p>Aligned.</p><p>Made.</p><p><br/></p><p>Two bodies</p><p>resting against the same quiet</p><p>as though silence</p><p>had made room for us.</p><p><br/></p><p>I am.</p><p>where serenity</p><p>wears our bodies,</p><p>safely sitting</p><p>between nothing</p><p>and everything,</p><p>where the world</p><p>can keep its noise</p><p>outside.</p><p><br/></p><p>And I see now</p><p>how two of us is—</p><p>a miracle</p><p>from divinity,</p><p>a small rebellion</p><p>against ordinariness.</p><p><br/></p><p>a way of showing mortality</p><p>that something does not need</p><p>to last forever</p><p>to be eternal.</p><p><br/></p><p>The magic</p><p>of being.</p><p><br/></p><p>The strange mathematics</p><p>of two lives</p><p>meeting at the exact place</p><p>where they were meant</p><p>to intersect.</p><p><br/></p><p>The wind blows</p><p>against us.</p><p>It carries wars</p><p>and words.</p><p>It carries the old noise</p><p>of a world</p><p>that has never quite learned</p><p>how to be still.</p><p><br/></p><p>Still—</p><p>we are one.</p><p>Here,</p><p>we are one.</p><p><br/></p><p>Let the wind remember us.</p><p>Let the trees keep</p><p>their long memories.</p><p>Let time take</p><p>what it came to take.</p><p><br/></p><p>Yesterday can keep</p><p>its ghosts.</p><p>Tomorrow can keep</p><p>its secrets.</p><p><br/></p><p>I have been</p><p>with you.</p><p>I am</p><p>with you.</p><p>I will be</p><p>with you.</p><p><br/></p><p>And here—</p><p>where harmony lives—</p><p>we remain.</p>
