Let me ask you something.If there is no heaven...No hell...No reward...No punishment...Would you still be good? Pause. If nobody told you stealing was a sin,would you still know that stealing from another human being is wrong? If nobody told you killing was forbidden,would you need a scripture to understand that blood is not water? Would you still care? Because sometimes I wonder...Maybe we are not good because we are religious. Maybe we are religious because we are trying to understand the goodness that was already living inside us. Think about Nigeria. Somebody wants to cheat you“God dey watch you!” Somebody wants to steal“God forbid!” Somebody does something wicked“God go punish you!” But I have one question: What if God wasn't watching?Would you still behave? Pause. This is not an attack on religion.It is an examination of humanity. Because I have seen people carry the Biblebut fail to carry compassion. I have seen people hold the Qur'anbut hold hatred in their hearts. I have seen people shout,“God is love!”while treating another human being like they are less than human. And I have seen people who don't believe in Godfeed the hungry,help strangers,and protect the weak. So tell me... Who taught them to be good? Before you became Christian,before you became Muslim,before you became atheist you were human. Before someone told you,“Thou shalt not kill,”you already understood pain. Before someone threatened you with hell,you already knew cruelty hurts. Empathy came before the sermon. But don't misunderstand me. Religion has done beautiful things.It has fed people,built schools,given hope,and taught forgiveness. But what happens when religion forgets humanity? When the label becomes more important than the life? Christian versus Muslim.Muslim versus Christian.Believer versus unbeliever.Us versus them. Suddenly, the person standing before youis no longer a human being. They are just...a different belief.And that is dangerous. Because ideas can be debated.Human lives cannot be replaced. So I ask again: If there were no heaven,would you still help the poor? If there were no hell,would you still refuse to hurt the innocent? If nobody was watching,would you still choose integrity? Because if your morality disappearsthe moment punishment disappears... perhaps you were not being good.You were being afraid. Maybe the highest form of moralityis doing good because you understandwhat it means to be human. To see someone hungryand ask, “Have you eaten?” To see someone drowningand save thembefore asking what they believe.Because they are human.And perhaps that is the religionwe have forgotten. Humanity. No denomination.No tribe.No border. Just... humanity. So perhaps the real battle isn'tHumanity versus Religion. Perhaps it is... Humanity versus our inability to see humanity in one another. And I refuse to believethat we must lose our humanityto prove our faith. I refuse.
