“I need to make my hair before next week.” “Please, you have to get the style o!” “I want this birthday to go well. I’m becoming an aunty. You feel me?” This was me last week. Broke. Really broke, but still wanting perfection for my birthday. (That was also the period I was mourning my spoilt phone. It felt like coming back from the dead because, honestly, I was almost out of it without my phone. It even got me wondering how Gen X and millennials managed to survive without these things because, bro, it was HARD for me.) I managed to survive the first week. By the second week, I was half-dead. And no, this is not an exaggeration. Fast-forward to last week, a week before my birthday. I suddenly lost all my joy and excitement. It was more like numbness, emotionally numb. And this feeling came and went for days until I eventually got the phone. Now, the excitement lasted for a few days, but then, everything just didn’t go as I had planned, meanwhile… TODAY’S MY BIRTHDAYYYYY! 🥳🎉 Nobody talks enough about that sweet feeling of being called or texted at 12 midnight just to be wished a happy birthday. Ayyyy, I love it! I woke up at midnight to officially begin my birthday and pray about this new chapter I’m stepping into (very scary, by the way). I felt this peace and conviction that my Papa has everything covered. I read some Psalms and was filled with gratitude to Him. I mean, to make it to this point in life? Get in jooor!!! My elder sis woke me up and wished me first. That was lovely. And then this dude went ahead to spoil my bed with water. I was SCREAMING!! 😭😂 My baby sis, on the other hand, wasn’t too happy that she didn’t get to wish me first. (She loves competitions alott😂) And then I was called upon to be prayed for. That’s been a ritual in this family, one I would gladly pass on. ❤️ Evening is for celebration, but am I sure I’m really feeling this birthday? I guess this feeling is normal, anyways. I’m not telling you guys my age because I get comments like: “You don’t look your age!” “Seriously, you look 16, 17, 18!” And that’s FAR from the truth. 😂 Oh well. In Jesus Christ we trust! I’ve gotten comments about looking older, too, but those are rare cases, and sometimes, I don’t like it. Isn’t it too early to be calling me “Ma”? Biko, I’ve not yet come to terms with that reality. 😭 I wanna thank God for topping my bread, year after year, and bringing me this far. It’s all Him. The first half of this year alone showed me premium shege, but I think God subscribed and saved me. 😭❤️ I’m grateful for the valuable people in my life, the ones I call friends and family. I mean, even without my phone, they reached out. Some of those little gestures really sweetened me. You have no idea how much they meant to me. Say a word of prayer for me if you see this, and yessss… IT’S MY BIRTHDAYYYYY! 🥳❤️🎂 Ask me what I want, please… 👀😂
