Back then in secondary school, Jaden's civic education teacher will teach about our country and always pop the question "if you want to leave this country and settle abroad raise your hands"... Many children in the classroom will raise their hands with gladsome minds leaving the teacher with mixed gestures of happiness and pity.

Jaden never understood those gestures then but now he does...

Six months ago, Jaden woke up in the morning usually feeling fed up with the recent happenings in the country then the idea of travelling and settling down abroad hit his mind and never left him. He began to make plans, sold all his properties, everything just to gather enough funds required to travel successfully.

He applied for visa, got rejected a few times but he kept on trying.... After few attempts, he got the visa and passport. He became overjoyed and fully expectant, he said "I will travel abroad, find a place to stay and begin to work and I will become rich"... Well, he had no solid plan, no scholarship opportunity, no shelter, no source of income yet but just the excitement.

He arrived there and suddenly, reality hit him hard again. He discovered that there are no 'underbridges' to stay at, you can't convert dollars to naira and use there, you earn in dollars and spend in dollars, the amount of time you work will assertain the amount of money you will be paid on a daily basis, you can't dump garbage anywhere, everything has bills...waste bills, electricity bills, gas refill bills... you name it.

And because Jaden didn't have a solid plan, nothing worked for him and he began to regret the decision he made so he is now stuck in the middle of a rock and a hard place.

Should he come back to Nigeria?

Should he stay there and keep trying?

He doesn't want to come back and continue living in "sapa" neither does he want to keep living abroad because the "japa" didn't work out for him

Can he bring himself out of "sapa" if he returns to Nigeria? OR

Can he still make it in the "japa" country?

What are your thoughts on this?

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
