KARMA

They say Karma is real.

I smile

The idea is that what goes around will surely come around.

Every action has a consequence.

Whatever you sow, you shall reap.

You can not sell sand and receive stones as money.

This is where things get interesting.

Not every person who does wrong eventually suffers for it.

You may suffer from the consequences of your forefather action.

It's like the father eats an unripe fruit and the children's teeth suffer from it.

And this idea is everywhere.

In our daily conversation

In every cruel action toward us.

“Karma will catch up on you”

In every situation that really take a toll on us

“Karma will deal with you,” we will say with water rolling down our cheeks.

Every parent inculcates this into their children.

Every culture induces the idea into its members.

It's now a song that everyone chews in their mouth, transmitting it to posterity.

The lyrics sing the praises of Karma and the instances of people he had dealt with.

The king from the immemorial who ruled with Iron hands and made life unbearable for his people.

His people's tears were his water and their blood was his wine.

When Karma arrived, he had no pity on him. He dealt with him like pepper dealing with eyes.

A man from antiquity who murdered his brother to take over land inheritance that belonged to them.

When Karma arrived, he killed all his seven children in one day.

But is Karma real?

Because moral decline in society is on the rise.

Because the upright trees are the ones falling, while the crooked ones continue to sway their branches.

Or has karma lost focus?

Because the wicked ones are enjoying the dividends and receiving the plaque of good deeds while the good ones are left hanging and suffering.

“has it derailed from its track?” I asked

“Never say that again.. Karma will definitely deal with their children,” someone replied.

Yet, I have watched the children of the corrupt men celebrate , feast and merry with the proceeds from corruption.

Their houses are filled with laughter, joy and cheers, not cries of anguish, wail of lamentation and soberness that eludes silent.

And still, we tell the oppressed to wait that Karma is coming

The wounded have to be patient that karma arrival is imminent.

I heard noise from the outside, thinking he had arrived.

I peered through the window but it was the cries that filled the air

For years, the wounds of the wounded remain and the wicked die peacefully in their beds.

The victims inherit pains while the children of the wicked inherit wealth.

And maybe, the saddest part of the promise of karma’s arrival is that we keep asking the oppressed to wait for justice instead of demanding it.

@Àdùní
