Survival Mode

Ask the average Nigerian what they want from this country and watch the question confuse them.

Caring about development has become a luxury item, so expensive like everything else. Nobody is dreaming about a better Nigeria. Dreaming takes energy and every last drop of ours is going into staying alive till tomorrow.

And it's ugly, what that does to people. You want to know what annoys me?

A woman with a sealing machine and a bowl of tap water, straight from the tap, packing it into "pure water" sachets and selling it to somebody's child. Not because she is a monster. But because money is the only argument that still wins.

"It's for money" GBAM the case is closed 🧑‍⚖️

That's what gets me and it's not even shocking anymore. We have built a country where a woman can poison a stranger for lunch money and everyone just...... shrugs.

Two people, same collapse, standing on opposite side of the rope and neither of them tied the knot.

The food carries its own quiet violence, chemicals slipped in to make it ripen faster, last longer, sell before it rotten because rot is a loss and a loss here is closer to death than to struggle. Everyone knows someone who has been "sick after eating". We say it the way we would mention rain. It used to be an emergency.

Now it's just "John fell sick after eating that poundo" and we walk away

This is the hardship no headline ever told. Not just the thinning wallet but the slower, colder exhaustion of loving a country that has stopped pretending to love you back

Survival mode was never our willing choice. It's simply what we had to embrace after every system built to protect you quietly agrees to fail us instead.
