The History of Technology

Part One –

Discovery

After mankind first crawled out of the primordial ooze, got banished from the perfect garden or was molded from humble clay, what was its first innovation?

Was it fire? No, I’d argue fire was harnessed by man, found and put to use by a people afraid of the monsters in the dark.

Perhaps it was speech? But no, different forms of communication are evident in animals, fungi and even plants.

Maybe it was the spear, to better provide food, maybe the wheel, to transport ourselves and goods, maybe it was clothing, to keep ourselves warm in the harsh winter nights. Perhaps even something as abstract as ideas: such as farming and cooking.

There is no way to know for sure which was the first spark that lit the metaphorical fire of invention. All we do know is that we have never stopped fanning that flame.

Innovation Through the Ages

Though some archeologists will argue on the specific delineations for the progress of humankind’s evolution of technology, there is generally an accepted division for the various eras in tech evolution. Initially, these were named for the specific material or technology which ushered in that particular age of progress, when the greatest research available was finding new ways to use whatever we could dig up from the ground.

It is important to note that these ages didn’t begin and conclude concurrently around the world, some places simply skipped certain eras and moved straight on. This is a simple general overview, maybe we’ll explore specific breakdowns for various parts of the world sometime later.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
