The Two Gardens

_A story on Relationships_

*Tunde* and *Ada* met in 300L at UNILAG.

Tunde was loud, funny, always had gist.

Ada was calm, bookish, prayed a lot.

Friends said, "You two don’t match."

They said, "We don’t have to match. We have to _fit_."

*Year 1-2: The Honeymoon Garden*

Everything was sweet. Dates, calls till 2am, matching outfits.

They posted each other. "My person." "My forever."

But then life happened.

Tunde lost his dad. He got quiet, angry.

Ada got a scholarship and had to travel for 6 months.

Calls reduced. Misunderstandings grew.

One night Ada said, "I feel like you don’t care again."

Tunde replied, "I feel like you left me."

They almost broke up. Not because love died.

But because they forgot 3 things.

*The 3 Things They Learned*

After 2 weeks of silence, Tunde texted: "Can we talk? Not fight. Just talk."

They met at that same park bench. And made 3 rules:

1. *Communicate, don’t assume*

 "I’m not angry, I’m grieving" > "You’ve changed"

 "I’m scared I’ll fail" > Silence

2. *Grow together, not apart*

Ada helped Tunde apply for jobs.

Tunde recorded voice notes to encourage Ada during her program.

"Your dream is not competition. It’s our project."

3. *Choose each other on bad days*

Love is easy on good days. Character shows on tired, broke, stressed days.

They promised: "We won’t threaten breakup when we’re upset. We’ll solve it."

*5 Years Later*

They’re not married yet. But they’re building.

Tunde runs a small logistics business.

Ada is a nurse.

They still sit on that bench every month. "Relationship check-in."

No phones. Just: "How are you really? How can I support you?"

Ada said last week:

*_"A relationship is like two gardens.

You don’t just admire the flowers. You weed, you water, you protect it from rain."__

Tunde added: *"And sometimes you plant new seeds together."*
