They said time heals.Nobody warned us that sometimes time only moves, while the wound waits for permission to close. They said "lock in while you are young. Build YOUR career. Collect the certifications. It is easier when you are the youngest person in every room. Wear your teenagehood because it is a deadline. So I started racing. Because I was afraid of becoming late.Somewhere along the way, growing up became a competition against invisible clocks. Twenty is already behind.Every birthday became less of a celebration and more of a progress report. Till I became 20. They started to say the same about 20s too. It is exhausting to constantly measure your life against people who simply started at different times or even are much more olderSomeone is already a doctor. Someone already has a master's degree. Someone has travelled the world. Someone has built the business you are still dreaming about. And quietly, without saying it aloud, you begin asking yourself a dangerous question, "Am I behind?".Maybe not. Maybe you have been comparing different chapters of different books.Maybe becoming the youngest person in every room was never the assignment.Maybe the assignment was becoming someone worthy of the rooms that will come later. There is a strange kind of freedom in realizing that every season has its own definition of success. Success can be graduating. Success can be surviving a difficult semester. Success can be learning how to manage money. Success can be resting without apologizing. Success can be finishing one thing before chasing the next.We romanticize people who burn out for ambition.We applaud exhaustion as if it were proof of purpose.As if sleeping less means dreaming more. But I am learning a quieter lesson.That becoming does not have to be violent.That growth is allowed to arrive without panic.That there is dignity in taking life by one assignment every moment. Maybe healing has a timeline.Maybe careers have timelines.Maybe love has one too.Maybe life was never asking us to finish everything at twenty.Maybe it was only asking us to be faithful to today's work. There will be a season for the degree. A season for the next qualification. A season for the career shift. A season for the life I cannot afford yet. None of those seasons need to happen all at once. And perhaps the most underrated success of all is this: Looking at your life today, raising your head without shame, and saying, "I am exactly where today's version of me is meant to be becoming."
