URIAH THE HITTITE

As I lay on the ground, defeated, the sword pierced my heart.

My blood gushed out for a while.

After a while, it started dripping.

I winced in pain.

But for a moment, I was confused.

I wasn't sure what hurt more. Maybe it was the stab wound, or maybe it was the person responsible for it.

As I lay there helpless, waiting for death, my life couldn't help but flash before my eyes.

I was just a loyal servant who served my master with all my heart, but I was served betrayal on a platter of gold.

The city was at war. As a loyal warrior, I left my beautiful wife at home to fight for my country.

You know what happened?

The king slept with my wife.

It hurts, but what hurt more was the fact that he got her pregnant and called me to come home in order to cover his sinful deeds.

But how could I sleep with my wife while the city was at war?

I don't know what was more cruel. Maybe the king giving them orders to put me in the fiercest part of the battle, or the fact that he fed me and spoke to me without any guilt, knowing that he had slept with my wife.

And here I am, waiting for death.

Maybe he will ask for forgiveness. I know no sinner will go unpunished, but he would definitely be forgiven because the good Lord is a Lord of mercy.

Fate is cruel, you know.

All my dreams of living a beautiful life, my dreams of growing old with my wife, have been shattered.

Maybe if he had told me he liked my wife...

Maybe, just maybe, I would have just...

Sighs. ๐Ÿฅบ

Maybe in the next life, fate would be kinder to me.

But for now...

I will just stay here.

Waiting for death.

โ€” Uriah

I was reading the book of Samuel and came across Uriahโ€™s story again, and I suddenly felt so bad for him. That was how this little monologue came.
