WAITING
<p><br/></p><p>The house learned my footsteps before I learned its silence.</p><p>Every night, the corridor stretched a little longer,</p><p>like it was trying to remember a version of itself without an exit.</p><p><br/></p><p>Doors began closing on their own.</p><p>Not with force.</p><p>With familiarity.</p><p>As if guided by a hand that knew the hinges personally.</p><p><br/></p><p>The mirror stopped reflecting immediately.</p><p>There was always a delay.</p><p>A blink too slow.</p><p>A smile that arrived late,</p><p>like something behind the glass needed permission first.</p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1000484678.jpg"/></p><p>One evening, the lights flickered</p><p>and stayed that way,</p><p>not off, not on,</p><p>just enough brightness to make shadows confident.</p><p><br/></p><p>I started hearing breathing</p><p>that did not belong to lungs in my chest.</p><p>Soft. Patient.</p><p>The kind that waits for recognition.</p><p><br/></p><p>When I finally gathered courage to leave,</p><p>the front door opened into the same hallway.</p><p>Longer this time.</p><p>Carpet freshly swept.</p><p>Pictures on the wall rearranged</p><p>to include a figure that looked almost like me.</p><p>Almost.</p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1000484677.jpg"/></p><p>I stepped closer,</p><p>counting the frames like breaths.</p><p>One.</p><p>Two.</p><p>Three.</p><p>In the fourth frame,</p><p>the figure was no longer facing the corridor.</p><p>It was facing me.</p><p><br/></p><p>And when I turned around to confirm the empty hallway,</p><p>the carpet bore a fresh set of footprints </p><p>still forming.</p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1000484672.jpg"/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
