WHEN NURSERY RHYMES GREW UP: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

They called her a star long before she felt like one.

Her face was everywhere.

Her name was becoming a brand.

Her life looked like light.

Photos.

Stages.

Flights.

Applause.

From the outside, she twinkled.

From the inside, she was tired.

Every time she stepped out, phones rose before people did. Everyone wanted a picture of the glow, but no one stayed long enough to ask about the fire burning her.

She was admired, but rarely known.

People said, “You’re lucky.”

She wondered, “At what cost?”

The higher she rose, the smaller her circle became. Not because she pushed people away… but because real connection struggles to survive where performance is required.

She smiled for strangers.

She cried with alarms.

At night, in hotel rooms too quiet for someone so visible, she scrolled through comments from people who wanted her life.

“If only I could be like you.”

“You’re living my dream.”

“God has favorites.”

She stared at the ceiling and whispered to herself,

“They only see the sky. They don’t see the distance.”

Stars don’t sit close to anything.

They shine… alone.

She was high enough to inspire millions,

and far enough to feel unreachable — even to herself.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star…

How everybody wonders what you are.

But nobody asks how you are.

---
TwoCents Reflection

Not everything that shines is at peace.
Visibility is not the same as fulfillment.
Admiration is not the same as love.
Sometimes the brightest people you know are not burning with joy…
They are burning to keep the light on.
