Which One Is Real?

I looked at this picture for a while, and one question kept coming to mind.

Which one is real?

The Apple in front of the mirror, with all those bruises, or the almost perfect Apple in the reflection?

We know the answer, of course.

The reflection is only a reflection.

But then I started thinking about people.

Sometimes, we are that apple.

We look fine from the outside.

We smile.

We laugh.

We make jokes.

We post pictures and go about our day like everything is okay.

And because we look okay, people assume we are okay.

But are we?

There is a version of us that everybody sees, and then there is a version that comes out when nobody is watching.

The one that thinks too much at night.

The one that remembers things it claims not to care about.

The one that sometimes gets tired of pretending everything is under control.

We don't always show that version.

And honestly, I don't think we have to show everything. Everyone deserves a private part of their life.

Sometimes, we become so good at hiding things that we even hide them from ourselves.

We say, "I'm fine", so many times that we stop asking whether we really are.

A smile can hide a lot.

A picture can hide a lot.

A social media post can hide a lot.

You can look happy in a photograph and still be going through something nobody knows about.

You can be making everyone laugh and still have your own battles waiting for you when you get home.

That's why I think we should be a little kinder to people and to ourselves.

Because we are all carrying things that don't show in a mirror.

But those bruises don't make us worthless.

They simply mean we've been through something.

Maybe you've made mistakes, trusted the wrong people, lost something important, or disappointed yourself.

Maybe life simply didn't go the way you thought it would.

It doesn't mean that all you are.

You are still becoming.

And I think that's something we forget.

We expect ourselves to have everything figured out, as if life comes with instructions.

It doesn't.

Sometimes you make the wrong choice.

Sometimes you start again.

And that's okay.

The person in the mirror doesn't have to be perfect.

They just have to be real.

So maybe the question isn't really, "Which one is real?"

Maybe it's "Which one am I choosing to believe?"

Am I going to see the bruises alone, or am I going to acknowledge the beautiful sides too?

The reflection may look better, but the bruises are the real story.

We are not just what people see; we are what we've been through, what we've learned, and what we are becoming.

Next time you look into the mirror, don't only ask, "How do I look?"

Ask, "How am I?"

And be home with yourself.

No pretending.

Just you.
