Prince Valerian Velmont had always viewed mortals as fleeting sparks; bright for an instant, then gone, leaving only silence. Lorelei Voss should have been no different. A lower-class bottom feeder and a sacrificial bride, a frail echo of the mother he had failed to save years ago.

Yet tonight, as the moonlight bled through the stained-glass windows of the crimson palace, Valerian found himself watching her again. She stood at the edge of the moonlit balcony, her thin shawl slipping from one shoulder, revealing the delicate line of her collarbone. The wind tugged at her hair and she did not flinch. She simply tilted her face upward—a quiet defiance in the face of death she never asked for. He had mocked her for that once, called it weakness dressed as courage.

The mockery tasted like ash on his tongue now.

When she turned slightly, Valerian noticed the scar just below her neck; a tiny line barely visible. A childhood fall, perhaps. A mark no vampire would ever bear, because vampires did not fall. They endured. They broke others, but never themselves.

Lorelei had fallen. Again and again, and she still stood.

Something cracked inside of him at that moment, like a first fracture in years of ice. He let himself believe it was pity, but when she lifted her hand to pull the shawl back, her fingers trembled, not from cold, but from the sheer stubborn will to keep breathing.

Valerian felt the crack widen.

She was not fragile like he had thought. She was enduring.

And in that moment, Prince Valerian realized something far dangerous than the curse that now follows him:

He did not want her to die. Not tonight. No, not ever.

He stepped back into the shadows before she could see him, pressing a fist against his chest as though he could silence the unfamiliar rhythm beating there.

But the rhythm did not stop. And neither did the ache.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
