Worthless Ache

We’re told everything happens for a reason.

‎But what if they’re wrong, and nothing is meant to be?

‎We’re just clinging to meaning like wreckage in a sea of chaos.

‎We’ve romanticized pain so much, draped it in silver linings just to survive.

‎Forced ourselves to believe it all gets better, simply so we don’t crumble under the weight of knowing it might not.

‎

‎We're just wandering hearts lost in the current of life, quietly holding onto the hope that one day it will all make sense, that the pain will finally find its purpose.

‎

‎Or maybe we just need something, anything to believe in so we don’t unravel completely.

‎

‎So we tell ourselves it’ll make sense in the end, even when it won’t.

‎Even when every road circles back to the same dead end.

‎Even when hope has become a habit instead of a promise.

‎

‎

‎Because sometimes nothing adds up.

‎The people who give everything get nothing.

‎The door never opens.

‎The phone never rings.

‎The closure never comes.

‎

‎

‎So we tell each other it’s only a phase — that it’s darkest before the dawn.

‎But what if dawn isn’t coming?

‎What if it’s just more night?

‎What if this right here, is all it ever is...

‎

And yet we keep going.

‎Because we don’t know what else to do with all this aching, and stopping feels like stepping off a cliff we can’t bear to look over.

‎

‎So we keep moving through the mess, holding onto beliefs we’ve shaped into something that feels like hope.

‎
