Coming of Age!🙋‍♀️🪽 Part 3.

What else does a girl need in a relationship? If I ask you, there’s prolly tons of things you’d list, and you’re right. Very very!

My relationship with Tade is perfect. I get whatever I want; anything I need is provided.

Tade isn’t just a random person in my life, his stance is known, even to the family. He knows my mum, my dad and my other siblings. And they know him too. So, Tade isn’t your typical “Hit and Run” merch guy, lol.

I find myself questioning the whole idea of Mayowa. When I think about it, I get infuriated at myself, not just that, I get to call myself names.

Things like “I’m stupid, I’m a betrayer” don’t quite cease to leave my lips.

Am I seeking some sort of justification? Or maybe I’m trying to make sense of my actions.

—————————————————————

Mayowa was never meant to be a big part of my life. He shouldn’t even be talked about quite often as I talk about him, but I guess life has a way of telling us to proceed without the proper manual.

Mayowa’s more like a family friend. He somehow has an affiliation with my big sister’s husband.

He takes Mayowa as his brother, so he comes and goes anytime he wants.

And because Mayowa has to work, he’d always stay with us during the week and leave by weekends. “Na Person wey work go chop” was a notion Mayowa strongly believed in. Although, he never seemed like the type who’d care if he had no job to do; or if he got laid off.

That’s how he got through to me, through his checkups, through his constant “Talk to me.”

Truth be told, I was never a fan of much talk. I’d get grumpy when you get all verbal around me.

And so another night came. We had yet another kiss, but this time around, it was different; we almost had that intimate moment before snapping back to my senses.

And yet again, those words found their way down to my lips.

“I’m so stupid, I’m a f*****g betrayer.”

I wasn’t even done with saying the words before Mayowa stepped in.

“You’re not stupid, and you’re not a betrayer. Who’s telling you all these things? I love you, Gift. You might not know, but I really do.”

For the first time, I smiled at Mayowa’s words, not from a place of feelings, but from the sense of, “This one don see mugu.” “You wan tell me sey you no get girlfriend?”

Frankly, I asked him several times if he had a girlfriend. He says no every time. But who’s he always spending hours with? Gisting and calling on the phone? I wonder.

We started talking at that late hour until he uttered another word.

He let out a light yet heavy and concerning laughter and said, “Sha, don’t cover up for me.”

I smiled. “You’re not even my boyfriend. Why would you want me not to cover up? You wanna see everything that my man sees? Lol, not possible.”

He laughed again. “I’m not talking about that. I mean, anytime we’re alone, you always act like you need to hide what happens between us. Sha, don’t cover up for me.”

I said okay.

We talked and shared experiences before we ended things, and we both went to bed.

Before stretching out my hand to receive the handshake from the worker of the night, I kept thinking about all we talked about and how the pieces are starting to become whole.

I finally gave in and shook sleep’s hand.

That was it!!!

What’s Tade’s take in all of these?

If you ask me, na who I go ask?
