<p>That ending hurts because the narrator knows the man needed help but was too afraid to get involved. 🥺 The line about wanting someone who could help him, but fearing it would ruin the scene, says so much about how we sometimes turn other people's pain into something to observe instead of something to respond to. This left me thinking.</p>
