'Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself. My Name Is....'

In celebration of 100 Insights on the TwoCents platform, BigDan — known on the app as Emmanuel Daniji — had a reflective conversation with Cyrus Majebi, co-founder of TwoCents.

From the story of how he first discovered the platform to his philosophy on writing, inspiration, and engaging with the vibrant community of contributors, Emmanuel shares thoughtful reflections on his journey so far.

In this Q&A, he speaks candidly about his beginnings in media, the creative process behind his insights, the writers who inspire him on the platform, and his hopes for the future of the TwoCents community.

---

The Interview

TwoCents:

I’ve gotta ask, how did you get to know about TwoCents?

BigDan:

If I were to tell the full story, it would probably make a five-minute read on TwoCents itself, so I’ll keep the short version here.

I was at work one day managing the affairs of my department when a colleague from another department reached out and asked if I could help her develop a script for a TwoCents VaaS project. At the time, I simply assisted with the script and moved on.

Weeks later, while we were all sharing a hilarious story about plate-washing drama in our work apartment, I jokingly said, “This story deserves to be written.” She immediately reminded me of the TwoCents platform she had mentioned earlier and suggested I check it out.

Right there and then, I signed up, wrote my first insight, published it, and shared the link in our WhatsApp group. What started as a spontaneous moment of storytelling became the beginning of my journey on TwoCents.

---

TwoCents:

When did your career in journalism begin? And did you always want to be a journalist?

BigDan:

My journey into journalism began during my second year at the university. At the time, I had already started handling public relations for an entertainment outfit we created on campus called Extreme Edges Entertainment. My role involved promoting events, coordinating with artists’ management teams, and organizing performances for campus shows.

Then came the opportunity to work with FUTA Radio, and I immediately embraced it. That experience opened my eyes to the world of broadcasting and made me realize that the media industry was calling me.

As for whether journalism had always been the plan—honestly, it wasn’t. My parents envisioned different paths for me. My mother, who was a nurse, hoped I would become a doctor, while my late father, who had been a pilot before joining missionary work, encouraged me toward aeronautical engineering.

However, I had always loved the arts. I began writing as early as primary school. I would read stories from children’s books and then rewrite them with different characters and settings just for the joy of storytelling. By secondary school, I was borrowing literature books from classmates in the Arts class simply because I wanted to read them.

University gave me my first structured exposure to media, but it was after graduation that clarity truly came. I realized that my path belonged in the media space. I jokingly say that I “handed my certificate to my mother” and began a fresh journey toward journalism and storytelling.

---

TwoCents:

What are three of your favourite features on TwoCents?

BigDan:

If the comment section can be regarded as a feature, then that is definitely my home. When my schedule allows, I enjoy reading other people’s insights and engaging with them in the comments. It has almost become a daily habit.

I also appreciate the Points-to-Coupon feature. It’s an innovative way to reward creativity and engagement on the platform.

Finally, I find the subscription feature quite interesting. I’ve actually spent time thinking about ways it could become more accessible so that more writers can use it without feeling financially strained. I would be glad to share some ideas with the founders whenever the opportunity arises.

---

TwoCents:

Of all your posts on TwoCents, which one are you most emotionally attached to?

BigDan:

Interestingly, it’s both all and none.

I approach every post as a project. Once I complete one, my focus naturally shifts to the next idea or story waiting to be written. That mindset keeps me moving creatively. While each insight reflects a moment, thought, or experience, I try not to become overly attached to any single piece. The joy lies in the continuous process of creating.

---

TwoCents:

Who are your favourite contributors on TwoCents? Pick five.

BigDan:

I must admit that limiting this list to five is quite difficult because there are many brilliant writers on the platform. However, it’s no secret that I deeply admire the works of Esther Omemu, Samuel Ibok, and Joshua Omoijiade. I often refer to them as my OG list.

Each of them brings something distinctive to their writing style, which makes reading their insights consistently engaging.

Beyond that, I must commend many of the Gen-Z contributors on the platform. Their creativity, freshness of perspective, and storytelling ability are genuinely impressive. If I begin listing names and the unique qualities I’ve observed in their work, this interview might have to turn into an entire series.

---

TwoCents:

What is your inspiration process like—for writing on TwoCents and in general?*

BigDan:

My inspiration process is surprisingly simple.

First, the environment plays a huge role. Everything happening around me—whether it’s everyday life, breaking news, conversations, or even a passing thought—can become a story.

Second, when I identify a story worth sharing, I focus on crafting it in a unique way while preserving the essence and moral of the experience.

Third, I trust my instincts. I believe the first idea often carries the most originality. I try not to overthink or overcomplicate the creative process, and at the same time, I never underestimate the potential of an idea.

---

TwoCents:

What are two features you’d love to see on TwoCents?

BigDan:

One feature I would really love to see is a collaboration or co-author feature. There are so many incredible writers on TwoCents, and the opportunity to co-create insights or series with them would be exciting.

Secondly, I have always wondered when authors might be able to have their own marketplace on TwoCents—a space where writers can showcase and monetize their work directly within the platform’s ecosystem. I believe it could open up new opportunities for creators.

---

TwoCents:

If you could have dinner with one lady on TwoCents, who would that be?

BigDan:

Why limit it to dinner with just one when we could have a gathering with everyone?

I’d rather see a TwoCents community get-together where contributors can connect, share ideas, and celebrate creativity together. That would be far more exciting.

---

TwoCents:

If you were to give advice to the younger contributors on TwoCents, what would it be?

BigDan:

Honestly, many of these young writers hardly need advice. Through their insights, they are already offering powerful perspectives and lessons—even to the older generation.

If I must say one thing, it would simply be this: keep writing.

---

TwoCents:

You recently posted your 100th insight on TwoCents! What would you say to someone who has just joined and posted their first insight?

BigDan:

Only yesterday, I had just one insight as well. Today it’s one hundred. Tomorrow, it could be a hundred more.

The key is simple: keep writing.

---

TwoCents Closing

Reaching 100 insights on TwoCents is more than just a numerical milestone for Emmanuel Daniji (BigDan); it represents consistency, creativity, and a genuine love for storytelling.

From spontaneous workplace stories to reflective insights drawn from everyday life, his journey highlights the power of simply showing up and writing.

As the TwoCents community continues to grow, voices like BigDan’s remind both new and seasoned contributors that every great writing journey starts with a single post—and the courage to keep going. ✍🏽✨
