BL...or where did YA go?

BL or…??

Whoever the f**k decided that this was a trope or started this trend needs to be put in therapy.

Or better still, explain to me when romance became synonymous with satisfying sexual desires.

What happened to good bromance where you've got each other's back? 😭

I have nothing against authors who write BL. I understand it's because of the money from it sometimes.

But I'm talking about the market.

It feels like stories are constantly getting pushed toward more mature themes, heavier romance, and sexual content, while the simple coming-of-age stories seem to be getting harder to find.

I miss the old days of reading YA and teen novels where the romance could make you scream into your pillow without every other chapter turning into something sexual.

Give me the stolen glances.

The awkward first dates.

The jealousy.

The tension that lasts for 30 chapters.

The hand-holding that somehow feels more intimate than an entire bedroom scene.

Give me characters who actually fall in love before they fall into bed.

Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but sometimes I genuinely miss when novels could make you feel everything without having to show everything.
