DON'T WORRY

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry...

One is yesterday, with all its mistakes and cares,it aches and pains. Yesterday has gone forever beyond our control.

We cannot relive it. We cannot turn back the remote control and take ourselves to an earlier scene, no matter how badly we wish we could.

We can remember yesterday. We can learn from it. We can make amends for what we can still repair.

We simply cannot go back.

Yet we often carry yesterday with us.

We bring its disappointments into today. We replay old conversations. We punish ourselves for decisions made by a version of us who knew less than we know now.

There is a lesson in yesterday, but there is no life left to live there.

The other day is Tomorrow, with its possible adversities and blunders, until the sun rises we have no stakes in tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.

Still, we spend so much of today worrying about it.

We worry about conversations that have not happened, results we have not received, problems that may never come.

We try to live tomorrow before tomorrow has even begun.

And while we are busy doing that, today quietly passes.

That leaves us with one day.

Today.

We are living in today.

Any one can fight the battle of just one day.

We get to fight the battles of today because they are the ones actually before us. We can deal with today's problems. We can do today's work. We can correct today's mistakes. We can make today's decisions.

Today is where our feet are.

Yesterday has already had its turn.

Tomorrow will have its own.

Today is ours.

It is only when we add the burdens of these two awful eternities— yesterday and tomorrow— that contentment will escape us.
