I fear we don't talk about extremism enough.

Really.

These fictional standards that have been set by a group of people who God help them, don't even matter.

We've normalised trying to live up to these unrealistic, ridiculous standards that were clearly made to oppress people.

You'd wonder why the amounts of atheists everywhere is rapidly increasing..

It is because people are tired. Tired of trying to make sense of these "rules" and why they exist.

They are tired of being judged and scorned at, for the smallest things.

I honestly can't even blame them.

I speak for myself when I say sometimes, being a Muslim lady is overwhelming.

All my life, I have believed and abided by rules upon rules that don't even make logical sense.

And because I grew up in a structural Muslim home, I never really had the choice or chance to deconstruct some of these beliefs.

I also wanted to be the perfect daughter and the perfect Muslim then so...it was a given.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I might have been a retard then.

Because, what do you mean I believed absurd things like, if I wear perfume and go out..to public, I'm practically going to hell, or that if I pluck my eyebrows, I become a certified member of hellfire. Or that if a non family member sees my hair uncovered, I'm the worst person on earth and God would send me to hell.

But I mean...I couldn't have known any better. These are stereotypes that literally everyone were promoting..my Islamic tutor? That man has to be the most misogynistic person I've ever met but I just thought he was he wanted me to be a perfect Muslim.

But now that I'm older, I know that God didn't create us as perfect people, nor does he want us to be. He really just wants us to be happy, and love each other and be good. And I honestly don't know where along the line, we lost the plot.

Like why can't people just live life and praise God?

To me, religious extremism is a misogynistic concept to oppress women.

And I don't know how we've managed to put up with it for so long.

Our faith is between our souls and God. It has absolutely nothing to do with these people. So, why exactly do they get to dictate what's right and what's not?

I hate that it took me so long to understand that overdoing things doesn't validate my faith.

But I'm grateful for what I know now.

Essentially, this isn't even about just religion extremism. It's also the social system as a whole, including our homes.

I'm sure all of us have been criticized at least once by that one nosy aunty, or uncle or strangers, or even our own parents over something so minuscule and trivial. It's overwhelming.

People have turned such simple and beautiful things into ridiculously high standards and created grounds for judgement and criticism.

Which is something God greatly frowns upon btw. Judgement, I mean..

In all, just be decent, kind, and love God, people will heal.

P.S: the only thing I think cannot be extreme, everr is feminism. There's no limitation in defending the right for women and advocating for them. Except you're gravitating towards misandry.
