FREEDOM THEN RESPONSIBILITY - by Peace Pen ✨

Freedom means being liberated and having the ability to do something without someone constantly interrupting or controlling you. Responsibility, on the other hand, is what you are expected to do: the duties and actions that come with the freedom you have. I’ve noticed and come to realize that whenever we desire to be free from a certain rule, restriction, or way of doing things, we should also be ready to become more responsible. When I was younger, in kindergarten, my hands couldn’t wait to be free from my teacher’s hand so I could write “ABC” by myself. My hands eventually got free, and I started writing “G” as “C.” 😂 Then, I also wanted to be free from being spoon-fed. Ooh! When I finally got that freedom, I had to learn how to stop talking while eating so I wouldn’t start coughing hard. I also had to learn not to eat too quickly so I wouldn’t hurt myself while eating. I remember when I was in Primary 3. During break time, I was eating beans and corn, and because I was rushing through my food, I bit my tongue. Blood came out, mehn! 😌😝 I cried too! 😂 There was another thing I craved to be free from in primary school: the fact that my teachers wouldn’t stay in the same classroom with me all day. Then I got into secondary school, and I was given more responsibilities: writing the names of noise-makers, taking notes of assignments to teachers, going to the staff room to remind teachers about their classes, and all that. I still craved freedom. I wanted to run to the university! Then I got to the university, and guess what? More responsibility. I now live alone, and I can decide to do right or wrong. Nobody can query me. 😂 So, where are we going with all of this? I have come to tell you that even as you desire freedom from the rules or restrictions holding you back, get ready to become more responsible. Get ready to take action. Get ready to grow. Get ready to become a better version of yourself. Even when your hands are finally released to write, choose to write the right things. The reason many people fall when they finally gain freedom is that they were not prepared for the new responsibilities that came with it. Freedom is beautiful, but freedom without responsibility can become a trap. So, be ready for change, and be ready for responsibility. It’s just like saying, “When you were younger, your responsibilities were fewer. But now…” Hell no! 😂 Should I say I want to become younger again? No! I’m just kidding. 😝 Bye, thanks for reading. ✨
