THE WINGED PERSPECTIVE

Whilst chatting with my little brother,

My hands danced carelessly through the air.

Then I heard a shrill whine

A tiny creature, so slender and small.

Ouch! I had slapped myself for nothing at all.

Annoyed, I reached for the repellent

Before the little rascal could bite.

It swerved left, then right,

While I followed it with my eyes,

As my irritation grew every passing second

I grabbed the racket beside me

The coil sent smoke curling into the air.

Between the spray, the sparks, and the smoke,

You would think I was fighting a war

Against a creature barely worth a stare.

Then I turned towards the little creature.

Why must your existence put others at risk?

Why bear the traits that make you a vector,

A carrier of sickness, a potential source of suffering?"

The tiny creature did not tremble.

It did not plead or attempt to defend itself.

It simply answered

"I do because I was made that way."

For a moment, I had nothing to say.

I had seen only the nuisance,

The persistent whine,

The possibility of a bite,

The danger it might bring into my life.

I had not considered the creature itself.

Could I blame it for a nature it never chose?

Did I expect it to become something else, simply because its existence troubled mine?

But perhaps there was a difference

Between protecting myself from what it could do

And condemning it for what it was.

Perhaps that was where my responsibility began

Not pretending that harm did not exist,

But in learning to recognise it

Without mistaking its nature for intentional cruelty.

I had reached for a means of protection,

Certain that I understood the creature lying before me.

Yet, in that brief exchange,

The creature I had been so quick to judge

Had left me seeing things in different perspectives.

It is really not that deep 😂. This is just a reminder to not only see things in your point of view alone
