<p>Heathen Slithers</p><p>Oh how I love thyine art</p><p>It soothes</p><p>To call you mine.</p><p>You're fair,</p><p>But men see dark.</p><p><br/></p><p>I love to grace in thy sight.</p><p>You deal heaftily on me,</p><p>Without mercy.</p><p>You pour your wrath.</p><p><br/></p><p>My desires,</p><p>Craveous and inspiteful,</p><p>Looms, whorls, dooms.</p><p>I will at thy sight.</p><p><br/></p><p>I want control.</p><p>I flaunt it, at thy face.</p><p>I mark a territory,</p><p>Hoping to take siege of you.</p><p><br/></p><p>But how dangerous you are.</p><p>You betray me,</p><p>Eat me from the inside.</p><p>A frozen beast, you keep me be.</p><p><br/></p><p>You let me; I stay in your frigid hold.</p><p>You hone my perfection</p><p>In place of your marred depravity.</p><p>Slithers, oh Slithers, your tongue is woeful.</p><p><br/></p><p>A little explanation:</p><p><br/></p><p>“Heathen Slithers” is about being drawn to something that feels beautiful and soothing, yet dangerous and corrupting. The speaker desires to possess it and be close to it, even while knowing it can hurt and consume them from within.</p><p><br/></p><p>The poem explores the contradiction between perfection and depravity, desire and danger, attraction and captivity. The speaker knows what Slithers is, but still chooses to remain within its cold embrace.</p>
