HOW'S YOUR HEART?

The rinse and repeat of everyday life leaves something like a souvenir in a part of us. It's so subtle that it slips from notice and we go about our business like we are not being shaped by the experiences of people, places and happenings.

Dearest reader, how has living life impacted your heart? What is the condition of your heart? How far off have you veered from your childlike innocence? Is your heart glowing with sinless perfection? Have you always been the victim as your selective narratives try to woo our belief? These are not questions that seek any verbal response.

In everyone's story, the beast is outside, in someone else, never within. This must mean everyone's heart, according to the stories making the rounds, is some kind of Nirvana — a paradise that swells with the promise of bliss — and the hurt within, if any, is caused by an outsider, never home-grown.

The heart, that very soft soil from which life springs, absorbs whatever falls on it. And like a soil, that same heart becomes the culmination of all that has gone into it — the juicy gists, the happy times, the sad times, the tough times, etc. Truly, the heart becomes the sum of all our consumables.

So, dearest reader, this is my humble unsolicited submission, your heart is only as healthy as what you "eat". Don't say you're perfect when you're big on junks and baseless opinions from online commentators have formed the pillars of what you hold sacred, don't lull yourself to sleep on the bed of illusion that you're incapable of inflicting pain on others because if your heart were to stand in a witness box swearing only to say the truth, how ugly would such truths be, seeing as the saint you have painted yourself to be is but a self-creation of convenience..

Now, I ask again, how is your heart?

Been a minute, I have missed you all.
